The Selška Sora river made its way between Jelovica mountain and the Škofja Loka hills. The deep valley, in which only a little sun shines, was inhabited mainly for the exploitation and processing of iron ore. On Pobočje, however, small villages were created, the advantage of which was the sunny position, which enabled the development of agriculture.
One of these villages is Sorica. It lies on a steep grassy slope. The clustered village, surrounded by mighty masonry hayracks covered with slate, hides the home of the Slovenian painter Ivan Grohar.
In the town of Železniki we will make a short stop and see the old blast furnace, a monument to the iron industry after which Železniki was named. This will be followed by a tour of the Železniki Museum and its permanent collections on ironwork, woodworking and lacemaking. We will see a presentation of making Dražgoše honey bread.
This will be followed by a drive through village Zali Log towards the most beautiful Slovenian village named Sorica, where the most beautiful Slovenian films like Flowers in Autumn, Lucija, Love is doomed to all of us, Shepherds … were filmed.
We will take photos together at the monument to Ivan Grohar, visit the Parish Church of St. Nicholas with the cemetery, and then visit Grohar House, where we will get to know the life and work of one of the leading impressionists in Slovenia and test our musical skills. A delicious lunch will be waiting for us at a nearby inn.
We also come from beautiful places, but we could agree on how beautiful Sorica is. Thanks to the best guide for such a pleasant wandering around Slovenian pearls.
